Studies on the Public Nuisance in Targu Area of Korea

Abstract
For one year duration from November 1971 some results were made from a survey referred to noise and health in Taegu city of Korea where about one million population residing in. The survey area was divided into four districts:-busy, commercial, industrial and residential. The noise meter used for measurment of street noise is Rion Noise Meter, NA-OZ type made in Japan. The questionaire used for interviewee residing in street-side was made over the questions selected from The Cornel Medical Index and added that newly made by authors. The results summerized were as follows.
1) The noise level of this city overed the allowable limit (Noise Rating Number, 40 below) except the residential area. The busy street had an uneasy condition as long as maintaining 70 db over (Specificity B) noise level for about 14 hours per day, and the commercial street was followed it, for about 10 hours. Also the most high level of logarithmic mean out of four districts was 83 db in busy area, That of residential district was below the allowable limit.
2) The degree of complaints in busy street compaired with residential street was as follows.
i. The degree of emotional problems in the above two districts was ¢¥ significant (P<0.05) but there was not according to sex, age and occupation (P>0.05).
ii, The interference of daily life and working efficiency were very much higher in busy street than
the other (P0.05).
iii. The physical interference seemed yet very low in rate. Aend the rate was not significant by various items (P>0.05).
iv. The cracking prohibition order ¢¥ of the Chief of Policy Bureau against all drivers in Taegu Area did not contributed to decrease the noise level and the interference of emotion, daily life and working efficiency, though it might released annoying sensen .and decreased the rate of traffic accident because all drivers had to keep well cautions.
